CEBU, Philippines - In Carcar City, one killed, three injured, as two escaped arrest in a vehicular crash involving four motorcycles at Sitio Mabugnaw, Barangay Guadalupe last Friday afternoon around 6 p.m.

Victim, Renan Mendaros was declared dead on arrival after he was rushed to Carcar District Hospital.

Mendaros was the passenger of the black Suzuki motorcycle with plate number GD 51430 driven by Ronnel Fajardo, 28, a resident of Sitio Malinao, Barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City.

Police said that Fajardo and another unidentified driver on a motorcycle were travelling in the same direction from Barangay Guadalupe heading to Barangay Poblacion 1.

Fajardo tries to overtake another vehicle while at the same moment, the unknown motorcycle overtakes Fajardo.

The unidentified driver miscalculated his speed and sideswiped Fajardo's motorcycle, causing the latter to fall on the pavement along with his passenger, Mendaros.

As they fell, Fajardo accidentally hits another motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver, Jeffrey Baraquia, 37, and his passenger Jessa Baraquia, also fell down to the pavement and sustained injuries.

The unidentified driver and motorcycle allegedly fled the scene immediately.

As concerned citizens managed the traffic while victims were still in the street lying, another motorcycle with no plate number suddenly appeared and ran over Mendaros.

The driver also fled the scene after hitting Mendaros but police have been able to identify him as Roldan Campugan, a resident of Barangay Guadalupe.  Victims were rushed to Carcar District Hospital for treatment, but Mendaros was declared dead on arrival.

According to Police Officer 2 Lauro Laurel of Carcar Police Station, traffic officers are still conducting further investigation and looking for witnesses since the victims were still being medicated.

"Under investigation pa if kanang unknown motorcycle natumba ba na og apil unya nipahawa dayon ug kanang ika-upat nga motor nga nihawa ra pud dayon, kay basin seriously injured na sad daan si Renan," said Laurel.

A case of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, physical injuries and damaged to property will be filed against Campugan once investigation proves his involvement.

Meanwhile in Balamban town, a motorcycle driver died and a trisikad driver suffered serious injuries in a vehicular accident along the National Highway in Barangay Nangka, Balamban late yesterday evening.

Police identified the trisikad driver as Manuel Parangangan, 27 years old, a resident of Owak, Asturias, and the motorcycle driver as Christian Alinsonorin, 27 years old, native of Barili, Cebu and employed at Asturias Farm Inc. which is based in Barangay Poblacion, Asturias.

Based on police investigation, the motorcycle and the trisikad were both making a turn on a curved portion of the road and didn't notice each other, which caused the two vehicles to collide with a strong impact.

The trisikad turned upside-down while the motorcycle swerved to the opposite side of the road and slammed into a Nangka tree.

Both were immediately brought to Balamban Provincial Hospital but Alinsonorin was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, while Parangangan's suffered a broken bone on his left leg.  Iris Mariani B. Algabre with Sheilla Mae Cañete (FREEMAN)
