When beauty and politics collide

THE EAR - The Freeman

International Politics/Beauty. Beauty pageants are just beauty pageants, but for pageant crazy countries like the Philippines, it can be more than just crowning the most beautiful woman in the planet. Recently, two international pageants were concluded. In the first contest, our Philippine rep was booed for her answer in the Q&A portion. For choosing Trump, she ended up crownless. In the other pageant, the Philippine rep won the crown. This pageant was held in Japan. Coincidentally, President Duterte just visited the country.

Beauty and the politician. One noticeable trend among politicians is having a beauty queen wife. The best example would have to be Imelda Marcos who was once crowned the Muse of Manila. Interesting to point out though, she is not the first beauty queen to become first lady. That title goes to Trinidad De Leon Roxas, wife of Manuel Roxas. "Maayoha gud aning mga politiko mangawat-mangawat ng mga mutya," a reader commented.
