Juvenal Sanso and Michael Cacnio at Power Plant

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Presidential Medal of Merit Awardee Juvenal Sanso exhibits dry-brush works on paper while Michael Cacnio presents new sculptures in a two-man show on view at the North Court of Power Plant Mall.

Sanso’s drybrush works, done in his prime from the ’50s and ’60s, are of landscapes and vistas that the artist saw while visiting places in Batangas, Cavite, and Parañaque.  Several works that depict bridges in San Dionisio have been collected institutionally by the Cleveland Art Museum. The new works by Michael Cacnio are of figures on rural bridges rendered in an idyllic manner.

The idea of the exhibition is to link Philippine expressionism’s past and present, representing the best of the Philippines in two mediums. The exhibit “bridges” the two artists, showing similarities in their approach to establishing identity and paying homage to Philippine heritage.

This exhibit is the first of Juvenal Sanso after the successful opening of Museo Sanso, the new museum in San Juan devoted to Sanso’s art.
