International theater community converge in Likha Asya

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Bohol played host recently to Likha Asya 1, the first international creative industry and community theater festival. Local theater groups and foreign artists in the performing arts gathered and shared their experiences and background in terms of Community Theater through discussions, forums and cultural performances. Likha Asya 1 is participated by four countries – Philippines, Indonesia, Japan and Thailand.

It is a program by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ (NCCA) National Committee on Dramatic Arts (NCDA).

“We were able to bring the experiences of other countries and the Filipinos could reflect on what is happening (in the theater community) of our neighbors. The expectations are met and it has been a very good learning experience among the participating countries,” Lutgardo Labad, head of NCCA – NCDA said.

National Committee on Visual Arts head Nemesio Miranda, National Committee on Dance head Shirley Halili-Cruz, National Committee on Literary Arts head Priscilla Macansantos and NCCA Chairman and National Committee on Music head Felipe de Leon, Jr. also graced the event.

NCCA – NCDA head Lutgardo Labad with Indonesian theater artist Agung Gunawan.

Participants from Thailand, Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines listen to a delegate telling his experiences regarding community theater.
