Each season, something new comes up in fashion — from shoes to bags, clothes to accessories, models, makeup artists, photographers, bloggers, online platforms.

Sometimes, the newest thing is the designer.

One of the key players in the world of style is the designer. From illustration to patterns to stitching the seams until it reaches the racks or a client, the designer is a creator of a piece of beauty, a work of art, a distinct point of view and master of his or her own universe.

Breaking into the local scene is young designer Brit Romero, whose heart is set to take part in retail fashion.

After taking Fashion Design and Merchandising at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Romero further pursued her passion and studied Fashion Business at the world-renowned London College of Fashion, whose famous alumni include Jimmy Choo, Patrick Cox and Harold Tillman, among others.

After taking further studies in London, Romero came back to Manila to pursue her dream of getting into the world fashion. Realizing the growing demand and presence of online retail shopping, she thought of putting into practice what she learned in school and fusing it with the business of fashion. Sharing the same vision, Romero and business partner Thias Tanbonliong decided to set up a ready-to-wear brand accessible to everyone — thus Weave.com.ph was born.

Weave is a ready-to-wear line reflecting contemporary everyday wear. In creating this brand, Romero believes that style should reflect you. “Fashion is an outspoken freedom of expression of oneself. It is projecting your image inevitably.” Thus, taking into account things that define her sensibilities and interests, she began to weave her dreams into reality. Inspired by minimalist aesthetics, clean lines and well-made construction, she created modern pieces painted in a palette of neutrals. Form and function is classically designed with a twist in detail and made with quality fabrication.

“Weave is about producing something new using different types of materials, patterns, details and ideas, interlacing all of them together to form a connected whole and creating something engaging and distinctive that puts style to every woman,” Romero shares.

Last season, Romero successfully showcased her first collection at the country’s version of Fashion Week — the Manila Fashion Festival. The aspiring designer presented a fashion-forward collective of style-setting pieces that reflected modern minimalism in a sea of navy, blacks and grays. Her noteworthy designs  had a relevant point of view apt with the times, highlighting comfort in modern-day dressing.

In a landscape filled with aspiring designers, Brit Romero has a clear direction of where to take her vision of design. Grounded by realities, the modest designer is ready to face the challenges in this business of beauty and style. Her determination, passion and love for fashion carve the path to her future in retail.

With an inspiring heart filled with modest optimism, Romero has this to say, “Fashion now is about innovation, making your own rules and making a distinct impact.” *
