Wicker Wonder
The presence of local brands in prestigious international trade shows has become the new staging of contemporary design. While most follow the general forecasts and trends, there are a few who break from the mold and distinctly showcase a strong point of view.
Zacarias 1925 is one of the renowned Filipino names in the global market. Crossing continents from Paris to Japan, Italy to Singapore, London to Manila, the brand brings pride to the country with its astounding collections of bags and accessories that have captivated the world of fashion season after season. These style-setting collections have graced the pages of top glossies such as Vogue, Elle, Collezioni, L’Officiel and Paper.
Headed by creative director Rita Nazareno with business partner Marjorie Taba, Zacarias 1925 has created a trademark of sculptural, multi-dimensional, design-forward but functional handmade bags that aesthetically reinvent contemporary art. With wicker, chair cane and leather as the canvas, masterful hands work with references from art, architecture and cinema and weave them to create transformative design masterpieces.
This season, Zacarias 1925’s latest collective for Spring/Summer 2017 is a showcase of Nazareno’s various groupings based on personal interests. The unthemed fusion of multiple inspirations creates a distinct and original composition of design profusion. Traditional craft of handweaving goes global once more at Premiere Classe — the pinnacle of all fashion accessories trade show — to be held at the Jardin de Tuileries in Paris from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2. Other participating Filipino brands include Rafe, Joanique and Ivy Kirzhner.
Contemporary handcrafted products have become one of the on-the-radar luxe accessories. Their current design transformation and alterations have advanced the artisanal art form in a variety of creative fascinations. Progressive times have seamlessly woven the past and present to fashion the future of wicker. And so far, Zacarias has left the world of style in breathtaking wonder.
