Mark of the Marqui

MULTIPLE CHOICE - Luis Espiritu Jr. - The Philippine Star

The men’s retail fashion is experiencing a surplus.

Dressing up the Filipino man in today’s modern age has become an optimistic and exciting guide to a man’s wardrobe adventure.

Menswear in Manila is currently under a state of liberation. The local business of fashion has transitioned to have a positive shift in perspective and has opened doors in the quest for market equality with women’s wear that has become a refreshing stylescape, offering unrestrained variety of brands to celebrate the look of uniqueness.

In the Philippines, the latest menswear apparel bringing a different kind of nowness to cool has finally arrived —  Marqui. Introducing laid-back Sydney dressing to Manila, the brand is a fusion of both resort and urban sensibilities defined as everyday “Sydneysider” wear.

The brand’s first collection showcases subtly printed cotton shirts, singlets (Aussie term for tank tops), and chinos or drawstring shorts. Made from 100-percent cotton, each piece boasts of high quality fabrication specifically designed for Sydney and Manila weather and durable for everyday wear. The essence of style is in the details. Marqui’s uniqueness prides in standardized tail-cut shorts with French seams, and play-on fabric textures to provide a premium reinvention of the classics.

The mark of Marqui is beyond the ordinary. Co-founded by Filipino-Australian Ian Capito (the brand’s managing director), the menswear brand is a visionary attempt in creating a multicultural lifestyle through clothing. With a background in Australian retail industry, Capito and his partners aim to concentrate in connecting Sydney to Manila with an optimistic idea of bringing laid-back everyday fashion. The brand’s focus is creating practical and relevant clothing with premium quality and fit, which are on the style radar.

Furthermore, the brand’s limited quantity in a range of pieces presents an almost exclusive appeal to the market with  consistent updated designs and styles only sold online.

The modern Filipino man has become more than just a spectator in global fashion. Online retail presence has seemingly influenced the norm and progressively evolved in rethinking the code of dressing. The birth of new brands and endless exposition of forward fashion season after season has opened a gateway to a plethora of contemporary menswear. As a result of this worldwide evolution, Marqui’s entry in the local stylescape will hopefully contribute to the variety and ongoing change in local retail.

Beyond all the new and constant change, more importantly, the brand isn’t just all about what to wear but fashioning an everyday lifestyle.
