HPG members get skin products from Belo

MANILA, Philippines - Celebrity dermatologist Vicki Belo has come to the rescue of members of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) being exposed to the sun while putting order to traffic along EDSA.

She has given out sunblock and other products to protect them from skin cancer.

She personally turned over Belo Essentials products to HPG officials led by Chief Supt. Arnold Gunnacao at the HPG headquarters yesterday.

The Belo Medical Group will be supplying HPG with its Essentials products for one year, Belo said.

“The products would protect the HPG personnel from the heat of the sun,” she said.

“It’s not just for aging but also for skin cancer and it’s for hyperpigmentation. So we have a variety of products that we will be giving them.” 

HPG policewomen will be handed sunblock SPF 60 to protect them from the sun, Belo said.

“With this cream, they will be protected from the sun,” she said. “This should be applied twice a day so we brought two kinds of cream. If there is already pigmentation, it’s important to use Kojic to remove dead skin.”

She could feel a significant improvement in the flow of traffic along EDSA a week after the HPG took over the management of traffic, Belo said.

 “Actually we’re always in the car, I go to Morato, to Greenhills, to Alabang everyday and very affected by the bad traffic situation on EDSA. So when we heard that the HPG will be taking over, we know that they are very well-trained and they have the authority.”

She was in London when she received the report that many of her patients have chosen not to leave the house to avoid traffic, Belo said.

“I think what’s happening with Belo, all other establishments, people will really not go out of their house to avoid traffic,” she said.

“So I think it’s got a very bad impact to the economy. A big thanks to the HPG for easing up traffic for our patients’ sake as well.”

Motorists violate traffic rules because they know they can get away with it, Belo said.

“But I think motorists have more respect for HPG and they will implement the rules equally. “

Filipinos abroad obey traffic rules because they know the consequences, Belo said.

“Abroad, all Pinoys are behaved,” she said. “But here in the Philippines, they don’t follow traffic rules.”

She is happy that HPG officials are aware that exposure to the sun is bad for their people, Belo said.

“I’m very proud of you because everywhere I look everyone (in the HPG) has a flat stomach,” she said. “Obviously, everybody is very conscious of how you look. Looks really matter. First impression really counts, so we see that you have the discipline to take care of your face and body. I think it’s a good impression for people to respect you more.”

Belo’s daughter Cristal Henares said she has felt the improvement in traffic along EDSA.

“On the first week of HPG managing traffic along EDSA, honestly I felt it,” she said.

“It took us only 15 minutes from Dasmariñas Village in Makati to Camp Crame, which usually takes an hour and a half to get here.

“We’re so blessed to feel your presence on the road every single day.”
